Ángel A. Sánchez Gamboa is a historian and epigrapher at Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH), the federal authority responsible for the country’s archaeology, museums, and cultural heritage. He works within the CNCPC — INAH’s national coordination for the conservation of cultural heritage — and has served since 2015 as epigrapher on an INAH project studying the archaeological collections held in museums across Chiapas.

He is co-author, with Martha Cuevas García and Yuriy Polyukhovych, of Monumentos escultóricos de Palenque (INAH / Secretaría de Cultura), the catalog of Palenque’s sculptural corpus — 202 pieces representing the largest body of Maya hieroglyphic inscriptions in Mexico, compiled from over a decade of documentation and conservation work. The book was presented at the National Museum of Anthropology — the same museum where he now leads Triptlán’s epigraphy tour.

He holds a History degree from UNAM, is pursuing graduate studies in Art History, and has published research on Toniná, Palenque, and Chinkultic — including co-authored work on the Hieroglyphic Stairway of House C at Palenque. In 2022 he organized the First Symposium on Toniná and Its Surroundings, and he lectures publicly on Maya political history, including the rulers of Chinkultic.
